Album Review: "O.N.I.F.C" - Wiz Khalifa By: Carif Russell
Artist Profile:
Wiz Khalifa
O.N.I.F.C, an acronym for Pittsburgh's own Wiz Khalifa's second major label album. The title meaning "Only N***a in first class" but edited as "One night in first class" caused much controversy before its December 4th release date but all of the talk only contributed to the hype of the album's debut. With production coming from the likes of his in house Taylor Gang crew members Cardo & Sledgren, Pharrell, Jim Jonsin, Drumma Boy and much more the album as a whole is very solid with a very high replay value.
Khalifa comes correct over his selection of beats. The subject matter is classic Khalifa, ranging from the new love of his life Amber Rose, the second love of his life Mary Jane, how rich he's become, and much more. Any of his previous fans who was disappointed or disgruntled by his initial "Rolling Papers" album release will definitely enjoy the direction Khalifa has taken this time around. Features and guest are also diverse on the album. Khalifa enlist the help of artist such as his Taylor Gang crew members Chevy Woods, Lola Monroe & Juicy J, and outside help from the likes of Cam'ron, 2 Chainz, Tuki Carter, and The Weeknd.
Overall the album's reception was great. "From the bottom fans" (fans of an artist that has followed their career from its humble beginnings) such as myself couldn't wait for the next installment in Khalifa's career. Sales the first week reached 148,000 units reaching #1 position for both top hip hop albums and rap album charts during its release, also placing #2 on Billboards top 200. I personally am glad to see Khalifa stick to his roots and and remain true to his sound. The video for one of the most notable singles on the album "Remember You" ft. The Weeknd is attached below.
